Friends,
I wrote a short piece (like comment and share!) on how AI is being used in education, highlighting some interesting examples that I think reflect how quickly things are changing. The obvious use cases - and ones that are in play are how students can learn quicker - or have a personalised nature to remedial learning. But there are others, such as helping teachers prep for lessons, grading and providing automatic feedback. It’s taking education to new levels - there is even an application to student recruitment - to help automate the process. There will be more as companies look for problems to be solved.
I talk about education and AI - primarily because I’m a little biased due to my work, but also because it’s a lens to see an industry being disrupted before our very eyes. There will be procedural changes that will need to happen - but as you will see, many of the changes that are happening are happening from the ground up - start ups, current education companies toying with where to bring value to the ecosystem. While there is guidance starting to surface from places like UNICEF, and educational bodies - no-one quite wants to stick their neck out.
And to some extent that is fine. That allows start-ups and tech companies to push and define what is possible.
For those of you interested in some of theoretical applications, I’d recommend reading the latest piece from Ethan Mollick. For those you wanting to see what’s happening “on the ground” check out these 15 companies.
You may also have seen, this week, the latest deployment from OpenAI rolling out the new voice and image capabilities in ChatGPT offering a new, more intuitive type of interface by allowing you to have a voice conversation. The deployments I have seen are a significant step above having siri, alexa, or google. It’s gauntlet time.
Stay Curious - and don’t forget to be amazing,
PS. This is a must-see video. The metaverse is very much alive! Incredible!

AI, Hardware, and Virtual Reality: AI removes the human constraint: media and interactive experiences can be created continuously; the costs may be substantial, particularly compared to general compute, but are practically zero relative to the cost of humans. The most compelling use case to date, though, is communication: there is always someone to talk to.
