Recessionary
Editor's Note
Hello from London!
I just keep hearing about doom and gloom, the cost of living crisis and news about job cuts. There are recessionary fears everywhere. There are signals that spawn from Covid phase, the war in Ukraine, rising inflation - yada yada yada. This week I learned about the Ezoic advertising index. I believe that a general decline in advertising spend shows a lack of confidence in the market and it's clear there is a decline year on year. I'm no economist, but according to Morgan Stanley, If history is any guide, an inflation-triggered recession would be less severe than one caused by credit excesses. But it very much looks like 2023 is going to be a gloomy 12 months.
Apart from your personal circumstance, why would/should we care? Because in times like these, companies are born and the strong get stronger. It also means that innovation slows as companies double down on the ideas that are less risky. This will happen in technology companies but also in the products that we physically consume.
Aside, I'm watching How to Change your Mind on Netflix. No experimentation yet though!
