Friends,
2024 is here in earnest. If last year was the year was the year that AI reared its head - this year will see generative AI integrate further to our daily lives. I see it everywhere. Summaries here, images there - but it’s what’s happening behind the scenes that will power our decision-making without us knowing. That scares me a little.
This year we will see some AI carnage. On a quick search, I see 2000 people on LinkedIn saying that they are a “Co-Founder at Stealth AI Startup” There will be more permutations and those who are actually in stealth and not telling anyone. Last year saw anyone with a little bit of speed and tech capability launch something small. Some of that will go away after the GPT App store launches next week. You’ll see those without a business model, slowly take a step back, consolidate with others or just shut down. More thought-through products will launch as we move to the application era of AI and the new Horsemen of AI ( OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, Meta LLama, Copilot, Huggingface, Midjourney, Gemini etc.) will create a new generative world. LLMs hold the key to generative AI, but some are more suited than others to specific tasks.
This time next year we will be looking back on a year of consolidation and a whole new set of AI companies that will have launched.
& Hopefully, I will have launched my own stealth project. (not AI related!)
